Thank you for sharing with us the news of Ann Crispin. She’s never gotten the full credit as a writer that she should have – the StarBridge series (http://www.amazon.com/StarBridge-1-Starbridge-ebook/dp/B009MSQWK8/) is one of the best series I’ve ever read.
I could wish you spent more time in Second Life, as that’s my current VR drug of choice, but I can see where EVE is somewhat more relevant to your inspiration. Of course, from what I understand of EVE’s economy – those warmongers are what keeps mining worthwhile. I am tempted, except that I *hate* PvP and as I understand it, even in the high security areas, there’s still hunters out to kill off the noobs.
