Are you sure you don’t have gout? It can be helped. Symptoms red, swollen toe (forget touching it ), inability to walk. Caused by uric acid in the joint. Makes crystals which dig in like needles. Need meds for that, taken daily and reduction of protein, esp. red meat. Tends to recur without the meds. Terrible stuff!
Yeah. Dr is pretty adamant that it’s a symptom of the arthritis. I’m having other symptoms that indicate there’s a flare-up in progress. We won’t go into what those are. :/
Couple of things can help…
Low (no-ish) sugar/ grain diet— mostly meats veggies and high antioxidant fruits ( blueberries, Gojiberries, cherries…) will support reducing inflammation response in body. Supplemental magnesium helps relax clenched muscles, Epsom salts foot baths
Easy and good… Very important
Stretching has become very specialized and advanced, easily addresses hammertoe, resets muscle tension see Aaron Mattes’ Active Isolated Stretching do yourself and/or see massage therapist, physical therapist, athletic trainer, etc. for support and training.
Since most of the muscle that contributes to hammertoe is in the calf of the leg can purchase a tens unit on amazon for ~$25 apply pads in x pattern above and below muscles on calf of leg, set at 80 and 120 on tens unit turn on and turn up till- wala no pain(!)
