The idea of a space opera blog doesn’t need to be limited to short stories, it could also be used as a place to put a couple of sample chapters for novels. Then again if it was done that way you would have to be careful it doesn’t just turn in to a place for people just to post samples if you wanted shorts on there as well, maybe make a rule that you have to post a couple of shorts before you can post samples.

Then again I could be over thinking something that is not likely to happen

Or invite reviews & commentary on classic Space Opera, looking at the various tropes. Or extra, world-building type material that won’t go directly into a story – things like the Spacer’s Handbook material you have posted on SolarClipper.com

One thing, though, that concerns me is non-space opera creeping in – things that are more focused on so-called “realism” and techno-thriller type material. The Skylark and Lensman stories, to me, epitomize a lot of what makes Space Opera. David Weber’s, while space operatic in scope, just don’t feel the same, for some reason. I could be wrong – the more I think about it, the less I can pinpoint the difference, but … Perhaps a better comparison would be Battlestar Galactica 1979, and Battlestar Galactica 2003 – the first feels like Space Opera, the second feels like Technothriller. Perhaps it’s the element of optimism, of Civilization Uber Alles?

Sar, you bring up a lot of interesting points at I would not have thought of.

And thank you for mentioning escapepod.org. It looks (sounds) right up my alley:)
The more I hear about what is out there, the more I realize how little I know…
