I know this is a day too late, but the next time you need to do bulk pickup like the chairs down in the basement, consider trying 1-800-GOT-JUNK. I’ve used them before, and the nice thing is that they’ll come *into* the house to get things. This was great when it was time to get rid of a sofa and a bed from upstairs. I didn’t have to haul any of it down. I just directed their guys. For my bad back, it was a bargain.
Also, I hear you on the “opportunities become obligations”. I catch myself with that kind of “ugh, need to go edit the book” whiny attitude all the time. I don’t know if it comes from focusing too much on the end or not, but that phrase nails the symptom. I write drafts quickly. What takes me so long is all the weeks and months I spend *not* editing those drafts.
