Day 1744: Geese

Something about the time of day maybe, but I lost a lot of walking time watching the geese fly over.

A couple of questions….I’m new to your tommw podcasts and I’m sure everyone else knows the answers to these questions…..but whatever! So…what’s a sprint precisely? And how do you define a “word” when you are counting them? I remember when i was in college (67-71) a word was 5 characters….but that was a long time ago. Thanks for enriching my life with your writing….I pray your “shelf life” is longer than mine!! And now back to the first reading of Darkness to see what you changed!!

      A word sprint:
      1. Set a timer for some period of time. I use 25 minutes.
      2. Start the timer and write like your hair’s on fire until it goes off.
      3. Rinse
      4. Repeat

A word is whatever your word processor calls a word.

I use a spreadsheet to track my sprints and normalize the counts to words/hour so I can compare different times of day and different lengths of sprint.

Thanks. Finished the third re-read of Darkness…just as good as it was the first time! Looking forward to Cape Grace now! Happy holidays.

Thank you! You exceeded my expectations!! Love the latest book – I read it in one go and am re-reading it.

I love all of your work. Thank you for sharing your prodigious talent (and Ishmael) with us.
