You mentioned a writer’s retreat on a train as a risk you’re not willing to take with your health. Is this just a solo-thing you’re talking about, or is there some organized writer’s retreat on a train? I’m aware of organized writer’s/fan’s cruises, but I’ve never heard of one on a train.
I know Amtrak has something of a “Writer’s Residency” program, but that’s more like a scholarship/grant for a handful of writers. It almost sounds like you were talking about a writer’s workshop/conference that took place on a train route.
No, just a simple private thing. There’s a train that runs from Chicago to San Francisco. One of the stops is Denver. With a rail pass I could get on in Denver and get off at Denver. 🙂
