The younger daughter’s play has just had its third performance. It’s 12:48AM and the second night in a row I’ve been up past midnight waiting for her to come home.
I’m guessing that I’ll not be walking later this morning because I’ll be sleeping in.
I’m feeling the burn in my calves this morning so I’m letting discretion be my valor today. I’ve noticed a marked improvement in my mood and outlook this week. I can’t help but think the walking is helping.
In the meantime, here are a couple of the books I’ve been reading lately – both from authors who are members of the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, my local writing group.
First, Stephen Merlino’s Jack of Souls. Classic epic fantasy with a touch of humor and not a bit of whimsy. It’s only book one and he’s working on book two. I highly recommend it. It was a ton of fun to read.
Second, and only because that’s the order I read it in, Alessandra Clarke’s Rider’s Revenge. This is a horse and sorcery book that had me trying to find spare moments in the day where I could find out what happens next. There will be a sequel, but I’m not sure what state that’s in. I got hooked into the series debut and I even forgave the minor cliff hanger at the end.
So, something to read. Both new indie-fantasy but I’m reading some new SF by a fellow SFWA member now. I’ll keep you posted.

And I really had a hard time staying awake for the whole walk.
