On dictation, I know what you mean. It’s not about the speed of typing, speaking, or writing by hand. It’s about the speed of composition. I did some timed tests once, and found that I compose at about 12-18 words per minute. I can type 60-80 wpm, and I can write longhand at about 20 wpm. So unless dictation is somehow going to vastly improve my composition speed, I don’t see any advantage there.
About the only thing I can think of would be to use dictation for loose-form story planning, e.g. “They’ll arrive late and have a little panic run about dealing with that. I’ll need to drop some hints that the bad guys are taking advantage of it. Maybe use a company name that the reader will recognize.” Then using that as my vague outline.
