Welcome back! So nice to listen to the podcast again.
Have you thought about using walking crampons? Not so good on patchy ice but on snowy ice they work well – would at least get you out of the house. Also a walking pole. Or two. Beats breaking something.
I’ve been listening to you as Gerard in Abbey Hilton’s Cowry Catchers. Enjoying the story; sometimes Gerard is very like Ishmael.
The Butler Book sounds interesting. How long does it take, once you’ve finished writing, for a book to be in the bookshops?
“Finished writing” is a nebulous term.
Once I have a final manuscript, about 3 hours.
But first draft takes about 100 hrs across a few days (My new schedule calls for 50 days, but we’ll see)
Second draft takes about 10 days (I do 10% a day, sometimes more)
Beta Readers get the second draft and I usually give them 3-5 days
Feedback from Beta Readers takes a couple of days
Editor gets a month (although she usually only takes 2 weeks)
It takes me a couple of days to go through the edits and make the adjustments.
THEN I have a final manuscript.
I’m a day behind listening. It sounds like you have a working routine going and I love the sound of it. The daily goal is the method that works for me rather than the “final outcome” goal. If I’m doing what I am supposed to be doing, then that is success. Funny thing is that in the long term results happen. With your routine you have the great priority set on that writing which may keep the impulse to get scattered on other things at bay. I’m feeling a very good vibe on this! Mostly I’m happy for you, but I’ll admit that I’m looking forward to the books, too!
