Day 2074: Still Smokey

I’m trying to get into On the Road. I talked a lot about Kerouac this morning.

One Response to Day 2074: Still Smokey

  1. Robert Evans says:

I’ve read a few road trip books, but not Kerouac. Steinbeck’s Travels With Charlie (a dog) was ok. Peter Jenkins made a name for himself in the early 1970’s hippie era with A Walk Across America and The Walk West. Still in the 70’s, William Least Heat Moon hit the road in Blue Highways, probably the best of the genre – – literate, erudite and wonderfully described, illustrated with Heat Moon’s photography. A few years ago travel writer extraordinaire Paul Theroux traveled the deep south in Deep South: Four Seasons On Back Roads. That might be your best look into Trump’s America, as Theroux, a leftist from Massachusetts, viewed whites mainly as ignorant peckerwoods and blacks as tragic victims.
