Yes on the titles and yes on the branding. I like them very much.

  2. Jamie Wyrick says:

Agreed, Yes, on the branding. And I liked the titles.

  3. Laith says:

I agree, the branding is good. Maintains consistency with the other properties in the Golden Age.

The titles sound good as a group… can’t say more since I missed the beta call and so don’t really know enough about the story arc for these. 🙁
Traveled to the Seattle office for business earlier in the month and left my ipad behind, had to wait for it to get shipped back. :/

Anyway, I’m back listening and thrilled to hear you are cranking through things again.

Agree on the branding and I really like the titles:)

Maybe you have addressed this before and if so please just send me to the discussion. However, I have not found this question anywhere. It is this, how in heck did Pip get through the academy with his test anxiety? It seems to me that the academy is a high level college and they have classes, study, quizzes, tests, finals, etc and absolutely no time to devote to oral tests for one student. He could not even pass a cargo 2 test without help, so how did he survive 4 years of this kind of schooling? Just askin’.

    • Jamie Wyrick says:

You said it yourself: “he was just the 1 student”. Plus sometimes it helps to know people in high places. Can’t get much higher than the daughter and the “old man”, one running the school, and the other to very soon run the school.

Pip showed a huge amount of initiative and intelligence in creating cargo selections that made the Lois more money, brought in better foods to eat for the crew, helped with the right ideas to keep other crew from getting themselves killed in solitary cargo dealings in backrooms. The crew was made more happy, and in whole the Lois benefited a great deal from a person that could not take tests the regular way. :/

So I could well imagine he might be given a bit of leniency as long as he put forth a true spirit of working hard to pass the tests however he had to.

Sorry Capt’n couldn’t resist opening my mouth.

I would imagine the university could recognize and accommodate his needs. Pretty much any university today does the same.

  6. Jamie Wyrick says:

Ishmael couldn’t ever learn to fly an academy shuttle, and had the fighting ability of a lawn chair. Yet, the academy found a way to help get him through it, and Ishmael has become an excellent Captain in his on rights.

Apparently the Administrator Staff knew just what buttons to push to help encourage confidence in a willing student to fulfill their ability to be their best,

Except for the “bad” ones that had to be passed for passing their grades they would eventually would loose their jobs anyway down the road thinking they were the ‘man’ and could do as they wished, hurting women and hospitalizing one, and one gone missing as a example..

    • Laith says:

      All good points.

quick question for the group (or you Capt’n) did we ever get confirmation of the missing crew-person or was that more along the lines of ship rumors?
I can’t recall right now (and I’m feeling the need to re-read/listen again… especially if new books are on the way)
