Day 103: Class Begins!

Lots of stuff to think about this morning, including a short political rant about the 4th of July and why I don’t like going to the fireworks displays. Yes. I ‘m a curmudgeon.

Wow, 16 years teaching at the College level, and 12 hours in education doctoral level study, no one ever mentioned “Carnage Unit.” It never came up, the standard unit hour was a mystery to me poorly explained to me by HR at 4 different institutions. Now I know, I’ve looked it up, thank you, thank you, thank you.

      Holy cow! You’re serious?!

Of course, you are… but I’m shocked! Amazed.

Hm. I just assumed that *everybody* knew what a standard credit hour was. Guess I’ll have to give Postman some slack. 😀

      • I’m guessing you probably do what I usually do. If I have a question about something, I usually do a little research.

When I became a mainframe Cobol programmer, I quickly purchased a book on the mainframe operating system I was working with (MVS) so I would have some background. For me it was a matter of course. To this day, I am astonished that very few programmers in my shop attempt to learn anything more than what they think is absolutely necessary to do their job. Of course, people that try to do that never really learn enough. It amazing what learning even a little bit of context can do.

Yeah. I get sucked into research that way.

If it’s really interesting I might be tied up for weeks 🙂
