The thing with libraries is that they are safe money. When I worked in the industry, it was all about the libraries because they didn’t return, and the return rate for the big ten was (still could be, dunno) horrendous. Libraries buy hardcover, so there’s that, and wholesalers make a mint selling to them by offering special services like library binding. It’s always been debatable whether independents get much out of libraries, and nowadays with digital and with libraries failing, the point is moot.
In my experience book clubs are generally a group of people that get together to read outside of their comfort zone and end up mutually unhappy with the result.
