Today I talk about some travel plans and the changes I’ve made to Double Share.

Small ooopsie – you linked the class file, not the TOMMW file here.

    Wait, I missed something…

Double Share is a better book because people get hurt?

Does this mean that now that Ishmael is all grown up, as of the end of Owner’s Share, and *REALLY* bad things happened to him, that from now on it’ll be more space opera, with bigger & badder explosions?

I was really hoping for more PvE, and less of the PvP.

No. It’s a better book because the plot is a lot richer, the characterizations are deeper and deal with some more complex ideas, and the environment is actually more realistic as Ishmael’s youthfully idealistic view point matures.

It’s not my plan to get into bigger and badder explosions. I don’t really see the need at the moment.

By PvE i assume you mean Person Vs Environment. Yes, there’s a lot of world building that I need to do here. That’s part of the reason I was fiddling with Odin’s Outpost. The environment that has appeared so benign in the first three books — and so curiously hostile in the next three — needs some work and I expect to see a lot more of that revealed in future tales from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper.

      • Tara Li says:

Fair enough. I would tend to agree with you that the world did get richer in the latter three books. I don’t feel the nasty people, though, were what made it richer, but the chance to see more modes of operation, and more of the universe than the inside of the Lois and whichever orbital she docked with (which, by CPJTC standands, were all roughly the same).

I will agree, though, that the universe needs more world-building. In the forum discussions, people brought up various abuses that might occur on some of the planets, and it seemed often that you hand-waved them away as “that just can’t happen”, when everything we’ve seen in the books so far suggested that it could, and from what most of us think of human nature, would.

Like I said in another comment, I’m waiting for the next book after Owner’s Share to really evaluate Owner’s Share. You’ve done great work so far, and so I’m willing to wait and see if you can pull it off.

You said you did want to go shopping so I went shopping for you. Here is a link to at least one powered desk site with lots of options as to desk config.

About the education choice: Yes, I see what you mean and, of course, helping out is definitely allowed (This is covered in the fine print of the Spacer’s Handbook) 😉
