Isn’t it actually Mountain Daylight Time now?
Interesting. I have a Chromebook and was thinking it might work for you. I installed Linux on mine for a while, but finally decided I didn’t need it for what I was doing. I vaguely remember back when I was looking to buy one that there were some with x86 architecture instead of ARM. This allows some additional programs to be installed in Linux. The things I wanted to install in Linux turned out to be things that did not have packages that ran on ARM, so it really didn’t work out for me.
It is nice the way you can go back and forth between Linux and ChromeOS without rebooting. Nice also that LibreOffice runs on it. I use the Google Doc program and then download it as docx and convert. Using LibreOffice would be very helpful for a writer like you. It’s nice that the documents get saved in a folder that is accessed by ChromeOS as well. These machines sure do run a long time without charge. And like you said, they are light. I like mine much better than I did the netbook I once had. So, it looks like that good idea was out there in the ether. How nice that it was gifted to you.
