Day 1242: Late Start

But I’m recovering.

Today was plagued by background noise, phone calls, and brain cloud.

I haven’t heard about any trans suicides in response to the election, but I do know that lgbtqa+ people are scared. Everyone is so desperately afraid they’re going to lose what ground they’ve gained over the past few years, especially with a republican congress and a potentially republican supreme court. It’s pretty grim.

On the plus side, I have also seen a lot of renewed interest in political activism as a result – especially amongst the millenials.

Nathan, might I suggest this post as a little perspective of the way we as a country should be acting.

The saddest thing is that right now the “supporters of Hillary” and I use quotes because there is no proof one way or another that they are not supporters or paid protesters or some combination of both. Are out and in some places breaking laws and that includes vandalism of private property in some locations. There are also many reports of people being assaulted because they supported Trump. These people have supposedly gone from claiming “Love Trumps Hate” to acting out in some of the most hateful and violent ways possible. That is a huge contradiction and makes them look hypocritical. The worst of those are the “rich and famous” supporters of Hillary who both in 2000 and again in 2016 swore up and down that if the Republican candidate won the election they were going to leave the country. Funny but now they cannot back peddle fast enough to avoid having to take responsibility for their statements.

So the question I put to you is where is the line drawn? It is one thing to be upset about the results of the election, to be honest I have been upset about the results of both 2008 and 2012, I did not believe that Obama would bring about change in the way he talked about in his campaign and from what I have seen to a certain extent that has been true. The biggest change I have seen is that this country is more divide, and more segregated today because of people wanting to label everyone, This-American, that-American, Purple-American, Orange-American. This problem has a solution and it is that we need to take away the first part of that label and realize that we are all Americans. The system is not perfect, but I will say that from talking and dealing with people from all over the world, it is a far sight better than 99.9% of what else is out there.

The one thing that I really feel strongly about is “All politics is local”, meaning you can be thousands of times more effective if you are active in local politics, be it a city council race, a county race, or even things as small as homeowners/condo owner association. The more people work to make their piece of this country better the better the country will be.

Hope you can overcome your fear and realize that the world went on before we were here and will continue to do so after we all are nothing but dust.
