Day 139: Common Themes

This morning I talked about some common themes in my work — the “doing what we’ve always done” theme in particular.

One Response to Day 139: Common Themes

  1. Tony says:

This was a very interesting episode!

I hadn’t really thought about how you don’t see a lot of “the other side” in the Trader’s Tales. I was always quite interested in and content with the story I was already listening to, but I see the draw to these other untold stories as well. For instance, I can’t remember what the name of the job was, but I remember thinking that it would be interesting to see what went on during the long exploration missions that Francis talked to Ishmael about–not the ones Francis was on, necessarily. I can imagine that the answer to what happens is “a lot of nothing” and maybe that is the case, but you’re awfully good at telling a story where no large events occur. And I don’t mean that as a bad thing.

I think my main thought here is that you have a very deep well to tell stories from in the Solar Clipper universe, but do you want to do that? Are you interested in writing something that might have to be told in such a different style?
