I did some whining today. Mostly about how my perception of the story seems to vary so widely compared to some of my readers. Also – common words again. 🙂

Let’s see, the recording, the dinner with Brill, what went on after Ish left Telluride. Yes they are interesting but you are correct in that they are not part of the story. The story is about Ish, and being called into the cabin. Ish basically finding Telluride and collecting the info about the people being held there without chance of leaving. People complaining about them are people who are going down rabbit holes that they do not need to go down…
After more than a dozen listens plus a couple of reads (Run), I think I have a clue as to why we desire to know details like what Ish recorded in Burnside’s office and the reunion with Brill. You already know or can determine every detail of their lives. You are god here, not Rosett. We, however, only know what you tell us. So, while it makes perfect sense that you only write whatever is part of the story you’re telling, we can’t help but feel that we’re being left out. Even worse, maybe you’re deliberately leading us astray! We’ve spent a lot of time with these characters, and they feel like friends, and we want to know all. Inherently impossible, but nevertheless human.
I really appreciated reading your notes on many characters lives after their appearances were complete. I think closure is the operative term here.
Side note, I didn’t apply to be a beta reader. I strongly considered it, but I think I want to read the final version.
Also, I named my dog Pip two days before listening to Fire. My dog is way too honest to be named after the character, but it fits him otherwise.
