I took a different path this morning and grabbed a bunch of photos of country roads. I’m looking for some cover art for Ravenwood and perhaps some of these will work–if not directly, at least as inspiration.
There’s a bit of extra on the end where I turned the recorder back on to walk in through the barn. I faded it out when I ran into people, not wanting to record conversations without permission.

I suspect that if you want an image of a raven for the cover, you might find it quicker (and easier!) to go with a realistic illustration or a stock photo. I’ve found that kind of photo is *really* hard to get.
I’m glad to hear that you’re already in the process of self-publishing Ravenwood. With Amazon’s announcements yesterday, I realized how many new ebook readers were going to be shopping for books this January. Better to get into that stream of sales as soon as possible. ($79 Kindles! That $99 version has the same features as my $250 Sony. wow. ) Is “Southcoast” also promised to Ridan publishing? I’m not sure I see any point in waiting a year for that to start earning money for you.
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of “South Coast” being published around the same time as “Ravenwood.” They’re much more of a complimentary pair in terms of a magical/mystical orientation, versus the technological underpinning of the share series. If Ridan really wanted to, they could publish “Cape Grace” in it’s place. Plus the whole thing about starting up the cash flows sooner.
Yeah, having spent more than a little time behind a 1500mm lens trying to get bird pictures, I’m well aware of how hard it is to get.
I’m mostly interested in “old road” pictures because Tanyth is really about the path she’s on, more than the raven.
I’m going to see about getting back into the pucker-brush if the weather dries out a little. It’s not looking too optimistic. I think I might have seen most of the sun I’m going to see while I’m here.
I love it as well. I am keeping up with your walks as well as listening to Ish over and over. I have some great ” old road” photos if you need some inspiration. Which season do you prefer?
