Re: alternate POV for Ishmael books: this would feel like the Sherlock Holmes (Hemlock!) stories not narrated by Dr. Watson – – “Mazarin Stone,” “Blanched Soldier,” and “Lion’s Mane.” Nice additions to the canon for the completist, but fundamentally *wrong.*
If you write to a formula, and establish the formula (through nine books!) so that people are accustomed to it and content with it, do you change the formula simply for change’s sake? New Coke! and plenty of other ill-considered decisions to change established “brands” simply to please the ego of whichever person is CEO at the time.
