If you’re a fan of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, you might give Lord of the Rings Online a try. It’s been around 14 years now, so most of Tolkien’s Middle-Earth has been incorporated into the game, with dozens of zones and thousands of quests. There’s only one small PVP zone in which non-consensual combat is possible, so you aren’t wasting your time building things only to have griefers destroy it. If you’re a Tolkien nerd you get to see all of your favorite places from the books, and even interact with the various characters: Gandalf, Frodo, Bilbo, Elrond, etc. I think there’s still a free-to-play option with a good amount of content.
