The thing about the Ravenwood cover, for me, is that it makes sense having listened to the podcast, but when I try to look at it from the perspective someone who doesn’t know the story, the cover doesn’t really communicate anything to me. “Scary road?” “Logging road?” If the title was something like “The Darkness” or some variation of a Red Riding Hood-type tale, perhaps. (The “wood” of Ravenwood doesn’t connect so readily with the idea of forests for me.)

When I think of a cover, the image that keeps coming up is of a raven, with it’s head large and prominent, in side profile and its eye glinting, with trees and maybe huts/houses in the (slightly out of focus) background. Not sure if that works any better, though. The cover about the guy with the guitar, done from the perspective of his heel as he’s walking sounds interesting too.

Also thinking about journeys and roads, I think the classic one is Luke Skywalker’s. He was just returning some lost property to it’s rightful owner, and yet that original poster had heros, menacing villians, weapons and magic (light saber on both counts). Perhaps a bit much for Ravenwood, but it’s got all those elements as well. (Well, not the light saber, but that would sure be an interesting twist!)

Thoughts on cover art….what occurs to me is perhaps a stylized raven image, like the totems of the native people of the Pacific N.W, looking down onto the winding road? Or, given the importance of Tanyth’s walking stick, perhaps an image of the stick crossed in conflict with a sword, with the perfect star-shaped drop of blood falling downward? The celtic art bird images are also attractive and seem to suggest “fantasy”. I think you would want to avoid any image of Tanyth on the path that might seem to suggest Gandalf….
I’m not surprised that you’re very tired. Creative energy expended is….energy expended! Perhaps vitamins and some extra protein would help.

Keep at it Nate, looking around as I’m sure you have noticed this is a spot in the month a lot of people start having issues of one kind or another.

Granted for most, like myself 0 words yesterday :(, the issue isn’t ok I’ve got 50k what next πŸ˜‰

Like joyce t said, “Creative energy expended is….energy expended!”

Just thinking about your word counts just make me tired…
    and jealous.
