Today I ramble on a bit more about the mixed messages coming out of Blog World Expo and the people who are responsible for producing it. The second half of the walk I get back on track about interactivity and engagement. I’m probably repeating myself.

I’m late with a comment about education and am hoping this was where you talked about performing to engage students. I’m wondering what you think of Sal Khan’s idea of having the lectures in video that the student watches at home and the homework done in class where interaction can take place. The idea of watching the video at home is that it can be paused or “rewound” and watched again at troublesome spots. I can see this especially good for math, but not sure about other subjects.
I really like this idea, assuming the video production values are adequate. There’s a lot to be said for “lab work” and doing the watching at home and the learning in a group has a lot to recommend it. The problem is that homework becomes a bit easier to skip. Maybe that’s not a bad thing.
