My wife wants me to let you know that MLIS is not a terminal degree. You can get a Ph.D in library and information science from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and you can get a Ph.D in communication and information with an emphasis on library science from Kent State University. (She’s working on her MLIS).

MLS is unless that’s changed lately. Given the growth of MLIS I’m guessing, that’s taking over the field.
