Day 284: Fifth Anniversary

Today marks the fifth anniversary of my beginning Quarter Share. I talked about that.

I also forgot to push the publish button again. :/

Don’t worry – we’ll get you back into Podcasting trim soon enough! Just think – two and half months from now, you’ll be doing the workshop, and podcasting your 1st anniversary TOMMW podcast!

  2. John H says:

Insurance for girls is cheaper than boys so your in luck there. If she was on the Honor Roll it would be even cheaper.

I almost sent a tweet asking if you had forgot to publish. 🙂

I kind of wish I had been “in the know” back when Quarter Share first came out. I have a feeling that being along for the ride would have been really neat. Then again, there’s a lot to be said for being able to go through the entire series as soon as you discover it!

The more I think about it, “South Coast” would be a good next book, because the welkies continue a central theme of the second and third Share books.

Having seen people take up driving as adults (here in Korea), I think there is a *lot* to be said for having people learn to drive while they are still young enough for someone to take away the keys if they behave like a knucklehead! I’m a huge believer in the idea of no night driving (with a few exceptions) for 16 and 17 year olds, and for only running errands for mom and dad for the first months of having a license, with a gradual increase in responcibility.

We mentioned South Coast to him a couple of weeks ago. Dr. Lowell thought on it, and decided he’s holding it as the carrot half of the carrot and the stick to use on Riden (the stick being, of course, the taking back the rights on the last three Share novels.)

      • Chong Go says:

Ah, I must have missed the carrot part. Though, the new Ishmal Wang books could be the carrot, since if all goes well, the first of those would be ready by the time Owner’s Share is published. That way South Coast could start earning money sooner, and provide an immediate boost to the other Share books.

Ridan is doing editing and covers as far as I can see at this point. The covers have been excellent, but I wonder if Nathan can get an idea of what the guy who did Ravenwood could do for Share. The editing part is not happening in a timely manner at Ridan. Getting a good editor would be key in selling books after the next book. If the editing is very poor on Double Share, then sales would go down for books following that.

At this point what would be the time needed for cover and editing outside Ridan? It would be good to either focus on getting it done outside Ridan or else drop the concern and focus on getting the second book of Tanyth series done and out. The concern about what will happen with sales in the Share series seems to be an anchor around your neck, Nathan. If Ridan gets you edits back tomorrow, very good. But what are you going to do today? And if the day after tomorrow? A month from now? etc. Don’t do nothing just because you don’t want to be immersed in something when those edits come back. They are already several months late. I don’t think carrots are going to work. There was money in it for them to get this going. That didn’t work. Or don’t they get a percentage?

Kip would do the work in about three weeks worth of time I think. It depends on his availability. The cost is not negligible, but certainly manageable.

I put a post about this on solarclipper.com this morning.

At the moment I’m working on getting this year off to a good start with my new work…and finding a good, reliable, available editor is going to be a challenge.
