Nate, just a suggestion. You might try taking some magnesium for that leg cramp. A shortage of it can cause such problems.
I get blindingly painful leg cramps in the middle of the night occasionally. They happen more often if I’m extremely short on sleep, but can happen whenever. Probably on average 2-4 times a year, but sometimes I’ll get them a couple of nights running. Not fun.
When they happen, gatorade sometimes helps, but I think what’s been more successful for me is the night before, if my leg is giving me warning signs that I might have a leg cramp I’ll take magnesium and potassium supplements.
It is very hard to say conclusively, but it seems like I have avoided leg cramps a few times by doing this. I don’t tend to take either magnesium or potassium every day (perhaps I should), though sometimes I’ll do so daily for a while.
