Day 361: Sunday Morning

I got out early and came back to find the server off line.

It’s always something.

DST was founded by Maloney’s grandpa. I’m almost positive that that comes out in a convo where his daughter is explaining to Ishmael about how the oldest son would always hang around the current owner to learn the ropes. She says something like that’s how her father and his father before him learned the business.

I saw the server down and felt sorry you. I hate it when that happens. Worce is when it boots right back up with no indication why it went down. Makes you wonder how long it will stay up.

You need to set working hours where you are not disturbed. Get ANAL about it and just say NO (EVEN TO YOURSELF) to all interuption not life threating. Set the ground rules in advance as you would have to do if you had an outside job and stick to it. I have had to do this myself in order to do my server admin work done each morning. Takes about three hours to get it done five days a week but has to be done early morning. Good news is all I need is my laptop and an internet connection so I can be almost anywhere.

I must agree with John on this. Also the idea of renting a small office somewhere away from the house and the family may sound expensive but when taking into consideration how much productivity is lost because you are doing house chores, honey-dos, and being a chauffeur for your kids etc. more than makes up the “expense”. You will always have things to do at home, they are never ending domestic tasks but you only have so much time to tell the stories in your heart. Don’t let the mundane crowd out the miraculous! The line has been blurred between work and home, time to draw it anew so it is understood that you are serving the family by working and not being their servant! (hope that’s not to harsh!)

Okay I’m off my soap box.

  4. Tony says:

You might want to think about going back to that dark room program or something similar to get rid of distractions, too. If it were me I’d also turn off my cell phone, but most people refuse to live without that.
