So many song cues, why am I stuck in Hallelujah?

Sounds like your wife is giving you a not so sutle hint with that trash bag thing. Could be she is thinking about the timber in the back yard. Just thought I might clue you in just in case you missed it. Yes I know, I am a very bad comedian!!!!!

I always assumed you just taught the class for the fun of it. If it’s not fun then there really is no reason to do it ever again. The way I look at it, teaching that class isn’t making you a few dollars a day–it’s costing you money. Like you said, a $0.99 work that you put out makes as much. Could you put out 1-2 $0.99 works in the time it takes you to prepare for that class, communicate with students, check on their progress, grade them, etc.? How much further along on a novel might you be if you spent that time working on one?

Hallelujiah is addictive. I’ve been humming or singing it since Christmas. Leonard Cohen’s is the best rendition. His signature is on the song. However, every time I get rid of it, I hear another version and am back into it. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHH! Even Il Divo sings it (hence since Christmas as I got my daughter an Il Divo DVD as a gift.)
Doesn’t your school district have #’s of days to be in school? It seems like they are off for this and that and something else. I bet they count half days as full days. I know they already cheat as your younger daughter should NOT be in with special ed kids for testing purposes. It completely skews the results, which is what the district wants, of course, but—–?
Writing is your job, not a nice little hobby as everyone seems to be treating it. You really do need to think about that and get to pleasing yourself occasionally instead of everybody else. I would only say this because I really do get vibes of frustration from you. It needs to be resolved somehow and to your own satisfaction (noone else’s) or the frustration will get worse. Just thinking.

Have you abandoned work on Zypheria’s Call? I haven’t been listening every day, so perhaps I missed your updates? It seemed to be so close to completion, it seems a shame for it to come to nothing.

Lots of good advice here. Thanks.

And no, Joyce. I’m just trying to clip out the “little stuff” first to clear the way for the larger effort.

Unfortunately EVERYTHING seems to be a larger effort.

And today is an *early release* day — so .. off to pick up kids.

So glad that Z’s Call is still in the works—I’m very fond of Tanyth and am eager to hear more of her story.
This being a day for unrequested advice, let me urge you to stop taking on these little projects that suck time and energy. I also echo the previous comment about teaching this course. If you’re not loving doing it, and you’re not well-paid, then DON’T DO IT!
If you don’t respect yourself and your work enough to give it a high priority in your daily life, then your family won’t either. I have been listening to this podcast for a year, and in that time your output has been miniscule. You HAVE written, in the past, and you CAN write, but you AREN’T writing now. You’re a smart man. If you want to be a writer, do it. If not, then do yourself a favor and get a 9-5 job. This being a writer but not actually writing just doesn’t get it.
Sorry. I blew off some frustration there. But I think what I say is true.

Nathan, I appologize for my earlier comment. I spoke too harshly, which I should not have done.
