Weird about the supposed lack of protein in the beans. On the other hand, I’ll bet that’s where the mystery sodium came from. (I’m thinking that normal, store-bought refried beans are pretty high in sodium.)

  2. Ignatz says:

Nate, if you are looking for a good source of protein which is also low in cholesterol and high in fiber you should consider ‘Urid Dal’ (sometimes spelled ‘Urad Dal’) which is a type of small, black lentil. It offers an amount of protein per serving which is equivalent to meat. I find it to be very tasty.

  3. Tara Li says:

Beans are a good source of protein – they’re not “complete”, but the addition of rice generally makes for a “complete” source of protein. It’s one of the reasons red beans & rice became such a staple in Louisiana.

I think something was wacky with your tracking program. Maybe they’ll get it fixed.

Don’t forget that you had salsa with your beans and that your stupid tracker gives that oodles of salt that is not there as you make it yourself. Hmmm, they really need to get their act together for accuracy. On the other hand, gaining a lb says too much salt. I would say 2 of the 4 lbs you lost on your 1st week were probably extra h2o hanging around. The thing is, you need the water but the salt makes it stay in the bod longer than it needs to do. Cells are so finicky. I have to think about this all the time as I can forgo sweets like crazy, but salt I love. I cannot be without my tamari (soy sauce without wheat and better tasting, too) without decompensating. Anyway, sounds like you are doing well. It WILL work.

      Oh crap!

      Tamari!!

I keep forgetting that I eat avocadoes with about 2 teaspoons worth of tamari ….

      >.< There's the sodium.
