Day 440: Friday? What?

It’s Friday but I called yesterday mid-week? I’m a bit disoriented, apparently. This space-time business is gettin’ serious.

In response to ‘Save Fiction’ Day, I declare July 22 ‘I’ll read whatever the hell I want’ Day.

You know, zooming out on the menu, and realizing that you’ve crossed 2 1/2 states really gives you an idea how 2 miles a day adds up. When you realize Tanyth might easily do 20 miles a day walking, it’s amazing how far she could have walked in the 20 years she’s been on the road.

Save Fiction Day? But he’s hardly objective is he. Also, how dare people read what they want to read if he doesn’t like it? And yeah, it’s the NYT list, it’s not very useful as a measure of anything really.

Sounds like a lot of arrogance and an agenda of his own at work. I’ve heard that 50SoG is weak, low quality and uninteresting. So meh, but if other folks want to read it… More power to them. I don’t like the demonising of it just because it doesn’t conform.

I read a piece ages ago about how self published ebooks should not be allowed. They aren’t being vetted by people who ‘know what’s good’ and as such the internet will be filled up with rubbish. The author of that drivel seemed to miss that, as a bunch, we’re quite good at sharing/up-voting the good stuff. The poor stuff just falls to the bottom of the lists (unless of course someone comes along and deletes the top of the list to put certain books to the top, but I digress). This guy was convinced that we needed him. He works for a publisher, he’ll make sure what we can read is ‘good enough’. How dare we try and find good stuff for ourselves.

    Sigh.

      Yes, Stephen.

      That was my take too.

FWIW, I’m enjoying a very nice resiny Lapsang Souchong tonight. Loose leaf, brewed a whole pot. Very tasty indeed.
