Day 575: Second Anniversary

I started walkin’ and talkin’ two years ago today.

Today’s photo:
#tommw 18F mostly clear. calm. 2nd anniversary

The photo pole. I brace the phone against that post and take the picture from the same place every day. The snow hides the path I’ve worn into the soil.

The long western reach. The noisiest and busiest part of the walk.

#tommw long western reach.

The corner that marks the halfway point. When I walk by that stop sign and head into the neighborhood, I start the recorder.

#tommw start talking on this corner

Heavy brick walls on both sides of the curved roads help block the wind most days. No yappy dogs out this morning.

#tommw walled canyon

The intersection that gives me the most trouble each day. Three way stop and there’s almost always one or more cars when I try to cross.

#tommw the trickiest intersection

The long eastern reach. Almost a half mule due east…it runs parallel to the western reach above but this one has only residential streets.

#tommw long eastern reach

The Monk Pole — it’s the one in the middle.

The Park. At the end of the eastern reach, I turn north and walk along the edge of this park.

#tommw the park

The back gate that marks the end of my walk. Two miles around.

Tomorrow is another day and with any luck at all, I’ll talk to you then.

#tommw tomorrow is another day...

You can’t really see the ice in my beard, even in the bright sun, but every single hair on my face was covered with ice. I needed a towel when I got inside and it started to melt.

Thanks again to all of you who walk with me each day. You keep me honest and make me think.

Sar Congratulations on 2 year anniversary
I assume you use something like myfitnesspal or the like to track your food but the sneaky culprit in peanut butter is the amount of salt in small reeses-peanut-butter-cups if your truly addicted try making your own with salt substitute or find an all natural with no salt because depending on your age its only 1500 mg to 2500mg per day and 1 tsp is 2300mg cutting out salt you’ll drop more weight

    Congrats on two years!

Thanks for the pictures! It’s good to have a ‘face for a place’, plus I get to see what type of weather my NoCo family is enjoying.

And thanks for motivating me to get out and move even when the weather isn’t glorious.

  4. Tara Li says:

Congratulations on a long, long trip! It’s really neat to get to see the sights you see as you walk along talking to us each day.

  5. tibbi says:

Wonderful photos. Nice photo pole. I’d wondered how you got the photos in the same place each time. Love the monk pole. 🙂

Happy anniversay! Happy “skinny enough for the cold wind to get under your shirt”. Nice to have that “problem”

Thanks again for taking us on your walks. I listen to you walks on my walks (when the timing works out) 🙂

  6. Ada Kerman says:

So what is the map? Are you doing a virtual walk, two miles at a time? What are the start and end points?

    • Nathan says:

      Hi Ada.

Yeah. I started in Greeley and I’m walking 2 miles a day. I have a new “virtual back gate” where I stop each day and the map represents that point…and distance from Greeley. Eventually I’ll end up at Hunt Valley, MD, where they hold BaltiCon … I’m hoping that I’ll be able to actually walk the last two miles there and arrive at the Con. I don’t know if that’s even possible without really messing up the path though.

I loved the walk/talk and photos! Congratulations on a wonderful accomplishment that has made a difference in your life and in ours.

  8. Darren says:

    Congrats on the 2 years.

P.S. In my mind the backgate was shorter 🙂 .

  9. Laith says:

Two years, wow doesn’t seem that long.
    Congrats!

oh and agree with Darren my mind had the fence being shorter (less privacy fence like) not sure why…

  10. Kelly S. says:

Congratulations on 2 years of talking on your morning walk!
Lots of podcasts don’t make it 2 years (neither do lots of exercise regimens lol).
I love hearing your ramblings while you wander.
The “monk pole” looks nothing like I thought it would. I imaged some sort of wooden pole or maybe a stone column. It’s nice to finally put an image to the “thwack” sound in each episode.
(PS: Your podcast inspired me to buy a breadmaker : ) My husband thanks you immensely.)

  11. Thank you Nate for sharing a little bit of your life with us everyday. I have gotten to where I enjoy that mile with you as I listen on my iPod as I walk the two dogs around the block. It is almost a perfect length for my walk. I think it about a tenth of a mile longer than your normal recording. I look forward to another year.
