Not remembering zip code! Frustrating isn’t it? I believe it’s a sign of age. We all have to deal with it to some extent. It happens to me with various things, entering the wrong zip code at the fuel pump is just one of them.

The mind is a wonderous and convoluted thing. As I have myself experienced, it tends to avoid things it’s not ready for. Often when I try to do something, I have the similar experience to what you described of doing anything but, then after a time, when my mind decides it is ready, everything seems to fall into place. It is unfortunate that your deadline has passed, but maybe your mind isn’t yet ready to deliver the result you need.

Nate, if it is dementia then we are all screwed… I’m shall we say, younger and it happens to me all the time. the other day I was asked for my phone number and started to rattle off one that hasn’t been valid for about 5 years before I caught myself.

I also transpose digits all the time, which is _great_ for a programmer (9878 vs 9887)

So anyway I think it is more just the way the brain shorts from time to time.

I’ve been catching up on Discover Magazine and recently read an article that had some pictures of what happens in the brain as we age. This is just the normal change and we have those times where a word is on the tip of our tongue and so on. I did not like reading it or seeing the pictures, but I’ve come to accept it and have more peace. Here are the pictures I saw that gave me the grief. I think this might even be the article, because I remember the bit about BF Skinner, but alas, I forget what the entire article had to say. Haven’t listened to the next to days yet but I hope the kid is getting better.

Had to deal with a panic’d oldest myself the other week. She had a bad case of flu so we had to stop at the ER on the way home from Chicago to be sure (sigh) and the dr said something about pneumonia and so she was convinced she was going to die.
