    Nathan,

May not be useful, but one of the ways to launder money is by under and overvaluing cargo.

The physical aspect of piracy always seemed like it would be pretty hard to get away with in the Solar Clipper universe. Ships leave from their port and jump to their destination port. The only opportunities for interception are coming and going, but I don’t see how someone could really know exactly where someone would arrive in a system. I suppose it could be done, but I don’t think it could be done quietly.

*shrug* Seems like it would be a lot easier to be a criminal on a planet or a station.

Certainly, being a criminal on a planet or station is easier in a lot of ways – and there’s plenty of room, especially on a planet, to make significant money. And yet… The one planet we’ve seen much of in the Solar Clipper universe is St. Cloud, and the overall population density really isn’t that high. So, plenty of room, really, for ships to jump and not come out (this is known to happen…), and plenty of room in a solar system for non-Confederation stations/orbitals to be built eventually (as we see Odin’s Outpost grow).

Initially, sure, it’s easier to be a criminal on a planet. But the Deep Dark is vast, and it’s not that hard for a completely parallel culture to end up growing out there, consisting of people who just find the idea of living under the Joint Committees too confining.
