By limiting who can be in heir club house, they make it seem more important through exclusivity, fueling their egos.
If just ANYONE can be a writer, it won’t be so special. They want acolytes and groupies! They want “writer” to inspire oohs and aahs, and get them adoration. They want to be held up on a pedestal with brain surgeons, rocket scientists, and Bond-style spies.
If they were really good writers, they wouldn’t have to worry about these things. They could just be confident in their abilities and knowledge that they can write compelling stories… but insecurity means they want to keep the bar high so they can prove to people that they are something special.
The bitching about whether someone is a writer sounds like a joke I heard one time from someone who did things in the bondage community. When accused of being a pervert, he replied – “No, I’m a PROvert – I make money from my kink!”
