1) Sounds like you need to find someone and get them to do the hard work on your Big Idea. Maybe you could get a consulting gig with Khan Academy – they’ve got a lot of your step by step how do I get this stuff done…

Technology of the Deep Dark… Lots and lots of places to explore there.
It makes sense that ships systems are purpose made for their specific task, ship management. I suspect the CPJCT would frown at having Angry Birds MMCCCLXXII on a ship’s tablet:) Its not like there is a lot of free time for such things anyway.
I had assumed that message and news traffic was passed onto ships from the outer beacons as they left one system and passed back to the outer beacons of the destination system after the jump. It didn’t occur to me that it might be expensive.
