Day 9: Web presence

For some reason I thought today was day 8 while I was walking. Just goes to show how displaced I am in space-time.

Thank you for these little walks through your reflection. Sitting up anticipating a visit with the doctor and a day of chores while listening to you reflecting and preparing for the day ahead is comforting.

With a house full of young’uns for a week I predict another trip to the grocery unless you already laid in two or three times what you think you need. Mine are young yet and surprisingly they get hungry all the time!

I suspect ‘writing every day’ is sort of like walking every day. The result daily might not be much to speak of but the overall conditioning is helpful when a larger task presents itself.

One more thing I’m almost afraid to point out as it’s a favorite part of the podcast and if you are doing it unconsciously you may become self-conscious about it and stop doing it. I particularly like the key phrases that you drop into your talks. They are like sign posts along the way, assuring with a certain amount of familiarity so that we know without looking at the status bar where we are in the walk/talk/podcast.

Dude, that’s a periwinkle sky – so cool!

I find it oddly reassuring that my writing approach is similar to yours. I need to know where a story starts and ends, and the joy of the writing is in discovering what happens in the middle. Writers are frequently advised to outline and to plan thoroughly. When I try to do that, I find myself sucked into writing instead.

Enjoy the spring break with you kids. It will be over too soon.

Surprisingly I have really enjoyed listing to these little talks. It is a nice way to take a short break late in the afternoon. As to how much time you should spend on your web presents, I can see how that would be a tough call. You need to spend enough time to make it something people will read but not taking away from writing and recording or there will be nothing for them to read. Just so you know I read everything you post and I don’t care what it looks like. I read it for content not looks. I have no objections to it looking good just not required for me to read it. Your latest changes are very nice, could use a little edge dressing but not required.

You said initially that the popularity of these talks was unexpected. I can see why that might be, but I think you may be looking at this from an author’s, and not a reader, or listener’s perspective.
For me, at least, this is a chance to meet the man behind the mask, as it were. To get to know-albeit through what may seem a clinically cold means- a man who I’m rather crushed to admit I may never have the good fortune to meet.
Of course, I am a longtime listener-upon reading the text copies of the traders tales I actually notice when edits have been made, and can recall the original-and your stories and narration have been a longtime comfort, have helped me come to terms with some of the changes in life. It seems like any man that could produce these stories would surely be an interesting one, and you have not disappointed me.
And I do enjoy listening when I do my evening run, and knowing that out there someone may be in worse shape than even I.
As for a font solution, you may want to check out the hoefler family of fonts, including one striking block serif that may do you well.
    Cheers,
    Sean
