I’m exhausted. Between having a kid in the hospital, dealing with her school, publishing a book, and driving over 800 miles in a single week, I tapped all my reserves. The result is that I’m feeling weak and frail. The thought of walking two miles does not fill me with energy and hope.

I’ll recover, but not as fast as I once might have.

Thanks for your patience.

    Rest, and recover.

By the way, IIRC you’ve mentioned converting your LaTeX to HTML to pour into Sigel for e-book making – what tool do you use to make that conversion? There’s a book (“Is Parallel Programming Hard, And, If So, What Can You Do About It?” by Paul McCormick) that is being maintained in Git, and poured out to PDF automagically, has had problems with the LaTeX to HTML conversion:

“I have applied latex2html and pandora to this book, but with very uninspiring results. Of the two, latex2html does best, but it messes up the figures containing code and a few of the figures containing graphics as well. Although pandora includes all of the code for the figures containing code, it loses the indentation. Worse, pandora completely leaves out all the figures containing graphics, omits the bibliography, and quite possibly has other problems as well.

Are there other conversion tools that would work better? Or, for that matter, particular versions/invocations of latex2html or pandora that work better?”

I know you do a lot of touch-up in Sigil once you get it over, and I doubt he would want to go that far for a fairly quickly evolving textbook, but I have always found PDF to be a pain in that it’s more concerned with appearance than content.

actually i pour the HTML to LaTeX using gnulatex2html … then use LyX to format the pdfs for CreateSpace

I have to massage the chapter headings after I paste the body text but there’s probably an easier way. I just don’t do it enough to figure it out.

Ahh, ok. It just seems odd to me that transforming HTML to LaTeX and vice-versa seems to be such a difficult problem.

        • Nathan says:

I think the problem is in the complex layouts he’s using.

I’m just running straight text with an occasional chapter break graphic.

Get good rest, eat right, drink lots of water. Hydration is important even in the Winter. One crisis at a time, even when you have a basket full. Take care of yourself first then you can deal with the rest. We can wait. <3

Take care of yourself Nate and rest up. We’ll be here when you get back.

Rest up and get well soon. Modern society often does not allow the neccessary time to convalesce from dealing with crises.

Praying for Ya. Just finished reading Owners share . Love it as much as the Audio book. But I do hear your voice when I read your books 🙂

Here’s hoping your renewed visible presence on G+ means you might be getting out to walk more soon!

    • Nathan says:

I’m planning on getting back on the pavement in the morning.

Just looking at all the red circles on my board … yeah. Longest break so far.

  8. Val says:

Sending good thoughts, Nathan, for you and your family.
