Hey, I love the map! I didn’t think I would get much from it, but as I looked, I found myself wondering where Ravenwood is and am eager to see the completed map. It does make the story have more body to it. I can imagine how it would also be helpful to you. Good idea making the map!

I’m not in favor of the “Words behind” count. My opinion: Lose that. 🙂

Weight. Oh, I’m on that! Here’s my deal. I’ve been working out for 3 years and have not lost weight. At first it was Curves; so let’s say 1.5 years at Anytime Fitness. I ride a bike 4 times a week to the gym (round trip 5-6 miles depending on route). I walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes each time. I workout hard for 40 minutes twice a week. I eat very healthy, though I do have a muffin twice a week and a protein bar 3 times a week. Ok, so why don’t I lose weight? So, I read Dr. Oz’s book, You on a Diet, recently. He recommends measuring the waist instead of the pounds. He has good reason for it. So, I measured and I lost an inch in my waist in the past few months. So, bottom line, I dropped doing the scale thing. That measurement told me that all my hard work is getting something done (plus my biceps tell me the same thing) and the scale was making me sad. Dr. Oz is not a great writer, but I think it is the most helpful diet book I’ve read. I’m feeling a lot more hopeful at 65 years old and 165 pounds (and wanting 135).

I’m seconding the idea to drop the words behind count. Since you’ve given up on the 200K word goal, it’s just acting as a anchor.

I have lived with a weight problem my whole adult life. I find it very depressing to weight myself everyday. The yo-yo effect of water weight is just to much for me. I find it works best for me to weight myself on the same day at about the same time once a week just to see if I am on track and to record my weight once a month. My goal is three lbs a month each and every month. I don’t always make it but I determine why I failed adjust and try for a better month. I have had a fair amount of success this way and have been a complete failure in every other method I have tried over the years.
Carb counting is tough. My dietitian told me to do it this way and it worked. 15 carbs = one card COUNT and I could have seven card counts a day and three SMALL fruit snacks a day that do not count in the seven. I can not have them all at once. Her suggestion was 3 for bfast 2 for lunch and 2 for supper but I could have a little flex in that as long as I stick to seven. She also said if I had to have a big meal then really have a big blow out meal then get right back to my seven count, just don’t do that to often. No food was off limits except I am also diabetic so I avoid sugar. She said a 1/2 cup measure is your best friend. You can not have a cup of anything so just throw that one a way. LOL

I had some weight-loss progess at around 40 minutes a day of walking/hiking, but the real progress didn’t start for me until I upped it to around 70 minutes. Sorry!

The walking is more for general health than weight loss. I burn about one half a bagel’s worth of calories in the walking itself, but the metabolism benefits are the key.

      And so do I, Joyce.
