Thank you for saying something I’ve felt for a long time. I get shut down when I try to say it – people look at me and tell me that if I don’t have kids, I just can’t understand. I have to say I think that’s pure manure, and that we’ve been over-protecting our kids for too many years (I honestly think I was one of the too-protected group – it’s caused me problems from time to time).
I love your walk/talk today. I agree with you with all my heart. I have watched my grandkids grow up so protected they have a hard time breathing on there own. They have no clue what life in the real world is all about.
Very good point here Tara.
I hadn’t quite thought of it that way but you are right. While not exactly protected Ish did grow up sheltered from the rest of the bigger galaxy out there and the whole story arc is him learning to work in the real world instead of university life.
I personally think that NCLB is great in theory. However in practice and implementation is has the inverse affect that it should have and hinders education in many ways. Just my 2 creds.

There was some of this in Quarter Share – Ishmael’s mom died – and he had no idea what to do next, until he stumbled across the Union Hall.
